Beginner Level Syllabus
GRADE 10
WHITE BELT - Signifies purity, that of a beginning student who has assumed no previous knowledge of this art.
BASIC PUNCHING EXERCISE :
1) Sparring stance - Obverse angular punch
2) Sparring stance - Reverse angular punch
3) Sparring stance - Reverse upper cut
4) Sparring stance - Obverse side punch
SIMPLE COMBINATIONS :
1) Sparring stance - Obverse punch, reverse punch
2) Sparring stance - Reverse upper cut, obverse side punch
3) Horse stance - Basic drill punch (single and double)
4) Parallel stance - Straight upright punch (single, double and continuous)
FORM WORK :
1) Two-directional punch
2) Three-directional punch
EVASIVE EXERCISE :
Stationary bobbing
Stationary reaching
One-step self defence based on bobbing and reaching
The attacker will pull back into sparring stance, step forward and attack with obverse punch. Defender starts in parallel stance. Proper consideration should be given to distance and timing.
WRITTEN EXAM :
Containing short answer questions on the tenets, general rules, belt and pattern definitions
Tenets;
Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self control and Indomitable spirit.
General Rules;
- No eating or drinking in class.
- Bow to the hall and instructor when entering the lesson.
- Pay all tuition, grading and insurance fees on time.
- Observe martial arts mannerism, oaths and tenets.
- Pay equal respect to every member of the class.
- Help whenever you can to improve others and yourself.
- Acknowledge your teacher with the title “Sifu”.
What is a pattern?
A pattern is a series of fundamental offensive and defensive techniques in a logical sequence, which systematically deal with a number of imaginary opponents, utilising a variety of attacking and blocking tools.

YELLOW BELT - Signifies earth, from which a plant sprouts and takes root to form a foundation of knowledge.
REPEAT GRADE 10
FUNDAMENTAL CHI KUNG :
Yee Gun Kin - Tendon training exercise ( Please click here for diagram)
PAIRED HANDWORK :
1) Striking the stars (Dy Sam Sin) - Forearm conditioning
2) Sticky hands (Chi Shou) - Sensitivity training
3) Trapping hands (Fung Shou) - Re-directing exercise (Mid / high section, stationary)
FORM WORK :
Blocking skills part 1, 2 and 3
PATTERN APPLICATIONS :
1) Blocking skill part 2 against basic drill punch
2) Blocking skill part 3 against Western style boxing - Low outward double block
- Middle inward cross block
- Middle inward trapping block
- Upper outward double block

One-step self defence based on blocking and punching

Positive Mental Attitude.
Inside block;
Any block that defends to the inside of your opponent's attacking tool.
Outside block;
Any block that defends to the outside of your opponent's attacking tool.
Law of Belief;
If you believe anything seriously enough and are willing to put the time and effort into the belief, the belief will come true.
Law of Expectation;
If you expect to do well you will do well, if you expect to fail you will fail. Hence if you think positively you will see positive results and vice versa.

ORANGE BELT - Signifies development, the young seedling begins to form stems and roots as training progresses.
REPEAT GRADE 10-9
FUNDAMENTAL PAD WORK :
Punching basics Level 1 - Stationary, Single pad
Level 2 - Stationary, Two pads
Level 3 - Moving, Single pad
Level 4 - Moving, Two Pads, Pad-holder attacks using handwork
STRIKING BASICS :
Demonstration of the following techniques onto a focus pad
1) Finger tips
2) Open palm
3) Back fist
4) Inward knife hand
5) Outward knife hand
6) Reverse knife hand
7) Horizontal elbow
FUNDAMENTAL KICKING :
Kicking skills Part 1 Low section kicks, from parallel stance
Part 2a Mid / high section kicks, sparring stance, leading leg
Part 2b Mid / high section kicks, sparring stance, reverse leg
FORM WORK :
Kam Sa Chi Kung - Golden Sand Breathing Form

One-step self defence based on blocking, punching, striking and kicking
The attacker will pull back into sparring stance, step forward and attack with obverse punch. Defender starts in parallel stance. Proper consideration should be given to distance and timing.
Law of Indirect Effect;
If one pursues a career or a goal with persistence and consistence, not only will that goal come true, but also other qualities will be attained such as respect, admiration, health, wealth or simply personal fulfilment. For example, if you learn martial arts, not only will you develop physical strength and self defence skills but also mannerism and mental well-being. This will also indirectly bring you self-confidence and self-respect.
Visualisation;
The ability to perform any physical events perfectly through the mind to bring about peak performance at a later stage.
